10Intentions covered in the correspondence table below

The path of the witch is one of sovereignty and personal authority, and yet the initial steps can feel obscured, scattered with endless conflicting resources and an implied requirement for costly tools and complex ritual. The truth is more accessible than that: your power rests upon three pillars that are free, universally available, and infinitely potent. Master these, and every spell you cast, every intention you set, will carry the gravitational force needed to manifest.

These three pillars are Intention, Consecration, and Correspondence. Once you understand this trinity, you will realise you already possess everything required to begin a powerful and effective practice.

Pillar One · The Mental Pillar

The Command of Intent

The most crucial pillar, and the one most beginners underestimate.

Magic is the application of will to effect change. If your will is scattered or clouded by doubt, the result will be diffuse. Intention is not a vague wish directed at the universe. It is a specific, clearly stated directive that you commit to with your full attention.

  • Clarity of statement. Your intention must be precise and affirmative. Not "I wish things were better financially" but "I call in financial stability and new income opportunities now." The specificity is not pedantry; it is the difference between a laser and a torch.
  • Emotional investment. Once stated, the intention must be genuinely felt. Engage your senses in visualising the desired outcome. See the situation resolved, feel the relief or the joy it brings, make it real in your body before you make it real in the world.
  • Release and trust. Once the work is done, surrender the how to the process. Obsessing over the result after casting drains the energy you invested. Set the intention, do the working, release. Let the magic do what you charged it to do.

The Rite of Consecration

Clearing and dedicating your space, tools, and self before any working.

Effective magic requires clear energy. Consecration is the act of setting an item, space, or yourself apart from ordinary daily energy, clearing whatever has accumulated, and dedicating it to sacred, intentional purpose. It ensures your tools are active conduits rather than passive objects, and that your working space holds the quality of attention your magic requires.

  • Consecrating your space. Before any ritual, cleanse the area. Sweep the floor physically, then energetically. Pass a lit cleansing herb bundle through the space, or ring a bell to break up stagnant energy. This establishes the area as a place of directed power.
  • Consecrating your tools. Every tool needs to be cleared of prior energy before use. Purify with smoke, salt, or moonlight, then dedicate it to your practice with a spoken intention. A beginner need not purchase expensive items; a kitchen knife can serve as an athame, a cereal bowl as a chalice. The power resides in the rite, not the cost.
  • Consecrating yourself. The most important tool is you. Begin every practice by grounding (visualise roots extending from your feet deep into the earth, anchoring you) and shielding (visualise clear, protective light forming a complete sphere around your aura). This is not optional preparation; it is foundational practice.

The Wisdom of Correspondence

The ancient knowledge that links colours, herbs, crystals, and timing to specific magical intentions.

Correspondence is the study of the energetic relationships between the natural world and specific magical intentions. It is the knowledge that certain colours, herbs, crystals, and planetary timings carry frequencies that naturally align with specific goals, and that working with those alignments rather than against them makes every spell more precise and more effective.

  • Colour magic. Colours are energetic shortcuts: choosing a candle in the right colour focuses intention before the first word is spoken. Red for passion and protection, green for growth and wealth, blue for peace and communication.
  • Herb and plant power. Every herb carries its own magical correspondence built through centuries of use. Rosemary for protection and memory, cinnamon for speed and prosperity, lavender for calm and sleep. See our full herb guide for the complete reference.
  • Lunar and planetary timing. Work on Mondays for lunar magic (intuition, emotions), Fridays for Venus energy (love, beauty), Saturdays for Saturn (banishing, structure). Aligning a working with the correct day multiplies its resonance with the intention already in motion.

How to Use This Table

Choose your intention, then gather the corresponding colour (a candle or piece of cloth), herb (dried or fresh), and crystal before you begin your working. Perform the spell on the listed day where possible. You do not need all four elements; even one correct correspondence strengthens the working's focus and coherence.

Example: if your goal is abundance, perform the spell on a Thursday, use a green or gold candle, include citrine or green aventurine, and burn cinnamon or basil while holding your intention clearly.
