Questions
What is the Mohs hardness scale?
The Mohs scale ranks ten minerals by which can scratch which, from talc at 1 to diamond at 10. A fingernail marks selenite at 2 but not quartz at 7. It is a ranking, not a ruler, so steps are unequal.
Which crystals should not go in water?
Keep selenite, malachite, pyrite and hematite dry, and never soak lapis lazuli or turquoise. Never make crystal elixirs or put stones in drinks, because some minerals contain toxic elements such as copper, lead or mercury.
Can I charge crystals in the sun?
Bright sun charging is best skipped. Amethyst, some rose quartz and some fluorite can fade, and a clear quartz sphere can focus sunlight enough to scorch or ignite nearby materials. Moonlight, sound or simple intention are gentler choices.
